The Certikin Aquatron Pump is a reliable and efficient pool pump that has undergone significant upgrades to enhance its performance and durability. Introduced in July 1994, the Aquatron Pump transitioned from the MK II to the Mk III style, denoted as ‘Old Type’ and ‘New Type’ in the Certikin Spares List. One key indicator of the pump type is the serial number on the grey sticker located at the returns end of the pump—pumps with serial numbers ending in ‘N’ are classified as ‘New Type’ pumps.
For pool owners and maintenance professionals, distinguishing between ‘New’ and ‘Old’ impellers is crucial for optimal pump operation. The impeller dimension measurement on the inlet opposite to the thread serves as a distinguishing factor, with ‘Old Type’ impellers measuring 44mm and ‘New Type’ impellers measuring 54mm.
Notably, the differentiation between the 1.5HP and 2HP ‘Old Type’ impellers lies in the design of the fins inside the impeller. While the 1.5HP impeller features curved fins, the 2HP impeller is characterized by fins with a visible flat section. These subtle design variations impact the performance and efficiency of the pump, ensuring that it operates at optimal levels.
When it comes to selecting the appropriate capacitor for an Aquatron pump, identifying the type of motor is essential. Is the motor a Lafert motor or a Certikin motor? This distinction is critical in ensuring compatibility and efficient functioning of the pump. MK II pumps are equipped with Lafert motors, while MK III pumps come with Certikin motors.
Pool maintenance and repair tasks are simplified with the Certikin Aquatron Pump, which is designed for easy installation and reliable performance. The pump’s robust construction and advanced features make it a preferred choice for pool owners seeking a high-quality and durable pump for their pool systems.

Aquatron Pump
The Aquatron Pump changed from MK II to Mk III style in July 1994. In the Certikin Spares List the MK II is referred to as ‘Old Type’ and the MK III as ‘New Type’. If the grey sticker on the returns end of the pump has a serial number ending in ‘N’ then it is a ‘New Type’ pump.
It is possible to distinguish between ‘New’ and ‘Old’ impellors by measuring the dimension on the impellor of the inlet opposite to the thread. On an ‘Old Type’ impellor this dimension is 44mm and on the ‘New Type’ is 54mm.
The only difference between the 1.5HP and the 2HP ‘Old Type’ impellors is the shape of the fins inside the impellor. On a 1.5HP impellor the fins are curved, and on a 2HP impellor they have a visible flat section.
When ordering a capacitor for an Aqwuatron pump it is important to identify the type of motor. Is it a Lafert motor or a Certikin motor? A MK II pump has a Lafert motor and a MK III has a certikin motor.
